CHARLOTTE, NC, USA—Anyone that's ever dealt with a product provider—be it equipment, materials, even a service—that doesn't know much about how the product he or she sold you (explicatives aside) know well the frustration it brings you and the problems it can cause in your process. Harper Corp. of America is one company that seems to be feeling its customers' "pain." The anilox-roll manufacturer recently sent 12 of its manufacturing employees, from its Charlotte Advanced Flexographic Technologies Center, to a Basics Flexo Class, held at the Harper National Flexographic Center at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) in Charlotte.
According to Harper, over the last three months, Dusty Helms, David Stamey, Rick Strong, Allen Robertson, Ron Case, Stephen Reinhart, Chuck Faille, Bill Ward, Bob Floyd, Paul Persinger, Mike Vitolo, and Johnny Stafford attended the class to learn more about the flexographic printing process and how the anilox roll is directly related to the success of that process.
More than just sit-down sessions covering prepress, plates, inking systems, and anilox rolls, the CPCC Basics Flexo class provided Harper's 12 hands-on training, as the employees actually set up, ran jobs, and cleaned the press. "This class has been extremely informative to the employees," says Harper plant manager Lester Carter. "It has provided them with a better understanding of what our customers face when they receive a roll and how important the roll is to the end-users' printing operations."
