FTA to Launch New FIRST Resource

BOHEMIA, NY | The Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) will officially launch its latest publication, FIRST 6.0 (Flexographic Image Reproduction Specifications and Tolerances), during the Fall Conference 2017 in St. Louis, MO, October 9–11, at the Hyatt Regency St. Louis at The Arch. Initially released in November 1997, this latest edition will be commemorating the 20-year anniversary since inception.

FTA says FIRST 6.0 outlines updates of the most current, state-of-the-art industry practices utilized for the finest results in printing quality and consistency. The workbook represents a specific methodology for control, optimization, fingerprinting, characterization, and process improvements for flexographic printers.

“When introduced to the flexographic printing process, it was described to me as a crude rubber stamp process, suited only to print bread, ice, and grocery bags,” says Jeff Randazzo, FIRST founder and past chair. “Shortly after my involvement in prepress, I saw the process much differently. What I saw was the potential to refine the process, allowing it to compete with a quality that rivals offset and gravure printing, at a lower cost. The rest was straightforward. Just ask consumer product companies—FIRST moved the process to a new level.”

A special 20-year anniversary edition of FIRST 6.0 will be available for purchase only at Fall Conference 2017. Those interested in obtaining the publication but unable to attend the Fall Conference can get a copy online at this link beginning October 9, 2017.
