SunSure: Sun Chemical InkSure Partner to Combat Counterfeit/Diversion Losses

NEW YORK, NY, USA—Sun Chemical Group B.V. reports it has formed a strategic marketing alliance with InkSure Technologies "to attack multi-billion dollar counterfeit and diversion losses." According to the global ink manufacturer, the alliance enables the two companies to offer "revolutionary machine-readable ink-based brand and document authentication solutions under the SunSure brand name." InkSure Technologies, adds Sun Chemical, is a developer of cutting-edge, covert, encoded-ink authentication solutions.

"Tailored to the exact needs of each client," states Sun Chemical's release announcing the partnership, "SunSure Solutions harness the quality of Sun Chemical's industry-leading inks and coatings, together with the flexibility and affordability of InkSure's proprietary authentication solutions, to slash counterfeit and diversion losses."

SunSure's underlying concept, explains the mfr., is the use of "encoded ink" (ink embedded with unique signature codes) in the printing of documents, product packaging, etc., and the ability to "sense" the ink using low-cost optical readers. According to Sun Chemical, InkSure's proprietary reader technology can be incorporated into "a variety of devices as required by specific applications, ranging from low-cost, hand-held readers, all the way to high-speed production-line devices."

Sun Chemical adds the terms of the contract stipulate the two companies cooperate in joint-marketing activities and related development and customization efforts. "InkSure will be able to use a number of Sun Chemical's relevant R&D and operational capabilities for customization and development work," adds the ink mfr.

Says Richard Pettifor, group managing director and corporate VP at Sun Chemical, "As a company committed to 'total value,' we have been looking at innovative ways to support our customers' needs for more effective weapons against enormous counterfeit and diversion losses—especially in today's difficult environment. Our long search for the best machine-readable solution available and extensive evaluation have convinced us that InkSure's extraordinary technology has the potential to revolutionize the authentication market. We are confident SunSure will be the key to exciting new business opportunities for both of our companies."
