Inland Opens Sheet Plant in Tijuana

INDIANAPOLIS, IN Inland Paperboard and Packaging has opened a new sheet plant in Tijuana, Baja California Norte, Mexico. The plant reportedly will focus on serving customers requiring high quality packaging, just-in-time deliveries, and innovative designs. Ignacio Zepeda is operations manager.

Bill Howes, chairman and CEO, says, “The Tijuana plant is an excellent example of Inland's strategy of building a marketing bridge between our US and Mexico operations. It will extend the market reach of Inland's California box plants by building on the experience the company has gained in its growing Mexican operations.”

Schiavi Opens Training Center

PIACENZA, ITALY Schiavi Spa has opened a training and testing center at its production plant in Piacenza. The facility will feature a permanent display of printing and converting equipment for flexible packaging.

Gravure and flexo presses, coaters/laminators, and slitter/rewinders will be available for viewing, training sessions, and printing and laminating tests on demand, as well as to demonstrate and test different technologies and processes.

Sheet-Fed Ink Plant Offers Special Services

HELMOND, NETHERLANDS Flint Ink Europe has opened a new sheet-fed ink mother-plant in Helmond. The facility reportedly fuses integrated process control systems with reliable, traditional ink manufacturing techniques to produce high quality sheet-fed inks.

A technical laboratory employs advanced instrumentation to ensure compliance with strict quality assurance standards, the co. reports, and value-added services include customizing ink formulas for specific applications and troubleshooting non-ink related pressroom problems.

Global Packaging Alliance Formed

PELHAM, MA The Packaging Alliance Network (PAN) has formed a global alliance with European Corrugated Services (ECS). The European-North American alliance is focused on assisting globally operating customers in having local suppliers. This proximity is said to facilitate high levels of service as well as a locally based understanding of the language, the facility, and the market needs.

PAN is an alliance of 11 independent boxmakers operating 13 corrugated plants and 31 sheet plants across the US, Canada, Mexico, and Thailand. ECS comprises five European-based companies operating 12 corrugated plants and 24 sheet plants.
