New Products for the Narrow Web Converting Industry

UV Offset Ink Maintains Adhesion, Color
Akzo Nobel Inks, Plymouth, MN; 763/559-5911;
Lithocure 200 is an offset ink for narrow web applications said to be reformulated with further improvements in UV press performance and adhesion characteristics. The improved product offers adhesion to a wide range of synthetic substrates, says co., especially to PE, PVC, and metallic foils, while maintaining high color strength and high resistance properties. Also can be used in UV rotary letterpress.

Finisher Offers Low Tooling Costs
Propheteer Intl., Lake Zurich, IL; 847/540-8988;
The M113 Label Finisher takes a preprinted web and, using what are said to be inexpensive magnetic tools, die-cuts variable repeats using one magnetic cylinder. Co. says benefits include low tooling costs; ability to convert any web with a register mark on it; short setup; tight print-to-die registration; easy operation with touchscreen control; high running speed; and no nicked liners.

Clear Film Provides “No-Label” Look
MACtac, Stow, OH; 330/688-1111;
Upgraded Opticlear-Plus clear film is said to be ideal for clear cosmetic, personal care, and beverage containers when “no-label” look is desired. It is available with PC5000 Series acrylic adhesives and 1.5-mil clear PET liner for optimum adhesive wetout, co. says. Film is designed as a sparkling clear label for glass, clear PET, dark opaque, and pearlescent containers. Film label features a topcoated face-stock, described as ideal for all printing processes. Film is said to be easy to print on and die-cut.

Independent Machine Co., Fairfield, NJ; 973/882-0060;
A 12-in.-wide, in-line slitter is designed for long lengths of PTFE and other tension-sensitive materials. Features separate unwind and slitting modules for the addition of a heat seal/splice unit. Cantilevered unwind has programmable tension control and end-of-roll detection. Slitter has auto edge guiding and entry and exit “S” wrap pull rolls with adjustable “draw” control; interchangeable slitting assemblies for shear, score, and razor slitting to 0.032 in.; and vacuum edge trim removal.

“Double-Barreled” Treater Runs Hot, Fast
Pillar Technologies, Hartland, Wl; 888/745-5276;
A double-electrode, narrow web corona treater reportedly generates high watt densities at faster line speeds. This dual-electrode design uses a stand-alone, 7.5-kW P6000 power supply. System is equipped with two removable electrodes, each with an individual single-point air gap adjust to provide independent gap control. Available in top-side, two-side, and bottom-side treat configurations. Corona units have removable electrode magazines and hands-free high-voltage connections for simple cleaning and maintenance. Designed for applications to 30 in.
