Polo to Produce BOPP for Exxon in Brazil

MACEDON, NY, USA—Exxon Quimica Ltd., an affiliate of ExxonMobil Chemical Co., has signed an agreement with Polo, part of the Unigel Group, São Paulo, Brazil, in which Polo will produce BOPP film on its new manufacturing line in Montenegro, RG-Brazil.

ExxonMobil Chemical affiliates will market and sell an agreed volume of the production of the film for flexible packaging and labeling applications.

IP Sells Latin American Flex Pack Business

SANTIAGO, CHILE—International Paper (IP) has sold Bolsaflex SA, a flexible packaging business in Buenos Aires, Argentina, to a local investor group.

According to Máximo Pacheco, president of IP for Latin America, “The sale of Bolsaflex in Argentina is part of the divestment strategy of our US-based Flexible Packaging business and will enable IP in Latin America to focus its future regional growth on its core businesses.”

Chromas Opens Sales Office in Mexico

BOUCHERVILLE, QC, CANADA—Chromas Technologies opened its first Latin American sales office in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Flint Ink Expands in Venezuela

ANN ARBOR, MI, USA—Flint Ink Latin America Corp. has acquired INKS-Chemical B&T, a Caracas-based supplier of inks for sheet-fed, heatset printing, and newspaper applications.

According to Jerko Rendic, president of Flint Ink Latin America, “This expansion of Flint Ink Venezuela SA fully reinforces our commitment to serving the Latin American market on a local basis.” Rendic notes the new acquisition also has capacity to add water-based flexo ink manufacturing.

Resin Plant Begins Production in China

KINGSPORT, TN, USA—Nanjing Yangzi Eastman Chemical, a joint venture between Eastman Chemical and Yangzi Petrochemical Industrial Corp., has begun production of Eastotac hydrocarbon tackifying resins for the adhesives market.

According to Damon Warmack, general manger of Nanjing Yangzi Eastman, “The new plant is located strategically in the Dachang district of Nanjing, Jiangsu province, to supply both the growing Chinese economy and the global marketplace. We expect to export product to Asia Pacific, Europe, and the Middle East.”
