TAPPI Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Div. Awards 2002 Klucken Scholarship

ATLANTA, GA, USA—The Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division has awarded the 2001 Ralph A. Klucken Scholarship to Shilpa Sankhe, a Ph.D. student in chemical engineering at Clemson University. She has a 3.9/4.0 grade point average in her program. Sankhe has an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), Bombay, India.

While studying for her Ph.D., Sankhe has been working as a graduate research assistant at Clemson University's NSF Center for Advanced Engineering Fibers and Films. She has conducted research in the area of multi-layered, laminated barrier films. Her research has resulted in the publication of two papers in professional polymer journals and presentation of four papers at various national conferences including the Society of Plastic Engineers' Annual Technical Conference in Dallas earlier this year. Sankhe also received honorable mention at the Third Annual Site Visit Poster Competition of the National Science Foundation-CAEFF for 2001.

Sankhe received her award at the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division conference in San Diego. The division gives the award yearly to a student who is studying in the field covered by the division. The award honors Ralph A. Klucken, a retired TAPPI employee, who was instrumental in the formation and expansion of the division for many years. Under his direction, the division increased its number of committees to a record level and held conferences that drew approximately 800 attendees. Nominations for consideration for the Ralph A. Klucken Scholarship for 2002 should be sent to Ashok M. Adur, the division scholarship coordinator, by email using This email address is being protected from spambots.
