SPE Announces FlexPackCon 2013

NEWTOWN, CT | The Flexible Packaging Div. of the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) announces the tenth annual two-day technical conference, FlexPackCon 2013, taking place at the Westford Regency Inn and Conference Center, Westford, MA (greater Boston area), October 8–10, 2013.

The keynote speaker will be Jonathan Melnick of Lux Research, discussing “The Innovation Imperative: Why Big Forces Demand Change in the Packaging of Small Things.”

Melnick points out that while convenience and branding drive much of the innovation in flexible packaging, larger drivers and challenges are in front of the developers charged with developing these systems. Megatrends within healthcare, connectivity, sustainability, and food security are leading to greater needs for flexible electronics, renewable materials, lightweight systems, and “smart” packaging systems. For materials developers and packaging companies, this requires knowledge of a vastly increased array of technologies and vendors and greater demands on their abilities to integrate technology into a finished product

Melnick will explore the drivers for change, the innovative technologies that can meet the need, and the technology scouting best practices that will differentiate winners and losers.

This year's conference explores "Engineering Packaging Solutions for Global Growth." Sessions will address: The Business of Flexible Packaging; A Sustainable Industry Future; Material Advances; and Equipment Advances.
