Prime Cook Joint Pack Makes Food Prep Easy

WEST YORKSHIRE, UK | Designed to make the quintessential Sunday roast an easy midweek dinner option without the laborious preparation, food packaging manufacturer LINPAC (Klockner Pentaplast) developed Prime Cook, its "quick roast" joint pack concept.

Prime Cook caters to the packaging requirements of the convenience sector’s recent growth. The pack allows consumers to cook a beef or lamb roasting joint on an oven tray in 30 or 45 minutes, with all the tenderness and delicious flavor of a slow-cooked joint. The company has been nominated for a prestigious Starpack Award for the pack.

Helene Roberts, director of global marketing and innovation, said, “We are delighted to receive the Starpack Awards nomination, which highlights the creative innovation behind Prime Cook’s first-to-market concept. The pack was developed with food protection, preservation, and presentation front of mind, and we are proud of what the team has achieved in terms of making a midweek roast attainable for busy consumers.”

The Prime Cook pack’s innovative vacuum skin pack (VSP) protects and preserves high quality joints from meat processor Dunbia, which are part-cooked (sous vide) in a hot water bath. The VSP technique extends the pack’s shelf life and prevents supply chain damage. A unique perforated rPET insert captures and conceals the meat juices released during the sous vide cooking process to enhance shelf appeal, enabling consumers to then use them to make tasty gravy or baste the meat after cooking.

Due to be held in February 2018, the Starpack Awards recognize excellence in packaging and celebrate the groundbreaking developments made by the sector’s most influential companies. Focusing on innovation, entries are judged by pack appearance and the challenges that have been overcome in its creation.
