Canadian Converter Boosts Productivity with AVT System on New WH Press

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA, CANADA—Farnell Packaging Limited, a manufacturer of flexible packaging and pressure-sensitive labels, recently installed an AVT PrintVision/Pro automatic inspection system on its new Windmoeller & Hoelscher Novoflex gearless press "in order to maximize productivity," reports Advanced Vision Technology (AVT).

AVT says the inspection system installation on the 52-in., 8-color Novoflex includes AVT's automatic bar code verification (ABCV) module as well as the co.'s pRegister, an automatic register pre-setting and control system. The fourth press in its wide web polyethylene division—and its first gearless model—Farnell also operates three narrow web presses in its label division.

Says Farnell's VP of operations Dan Christianson, "When we decided to bring in what we consider the 'Cadillac' of presses with the latest technology, we also wanted to have the quality-control systems that can keep up with it during run time as well as makeready stage. AVT has both."

Adds Don Farnell, president and founder of the 43-year-old company, "I know that AVT's inspection systems are helping us to advance our production efficiency. On the new press, we have an increased ability to view all details and detect any defect occurrence. With the very fine process printing we do for our customers, that's extremely important."
