About Timothy J. Walker

Timothy J. Walker is a web handling and winding specialist with over 25 years of experience and a Master’s in Management of Technology from the Univ. of Minnesota and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Univ. of Iowa. Tim is president of TJWalker+Assoc. Inc., and has helped over 100 companies working with paper, film and foil-based manufacturing processes. Before starting his consulting business in 1999, Tim worked at 3M Company for 17 years. Tim works on all things ‘web handling,’ including understanding material properties, tension control, roller design, nipped processes, web guiding, and winding. Tim addresses the biggest job of a web handler, which is to avoid waste, including breaks, scratches, curl, bagginess, wander, and the big waste buckles of wrinkling and winding defects. Tim has written a monthly column for Paper, Film, and Foil Converter--PFFC magazine ("Web Lines") since 2002, now totaling over 100 columns, and all available at www.pffc-online.com/web-lines.
