AIMCAL Business Outlook Falls

FORT MILL, SC | The Assn. of Intl. Metallizers, Coaters & Laminators quarterly Economic Index survey reveals that the current general activity index among the 41 participating members has fallen, following a zigzag trend this quarter from a previous 53.85 points to 39.03 points. Conducted and interpreted by Hobe & Lucas, CPA’s, Inc. of Independence, OH, this quarter’s survey represents the lowest reading for the current index over the last three quarters. “Likewise, the forecasted index decreased from 66.66 to 46.34. With this decrease, the forecasted index has fallen to its lowest level in two years. A reading over 50 generally indicates optimistic leanings.”

In general, the optimism of the association’s last quarter’s survey has “tempered and dampened” with the current general activity index nearly flat with its average value for the last two years. An analysis reveals this quarter contrasts with trends broken and reversed, indicating uncertainty and expected variability with regard to economic expectations.
