Pulse, the manufacturer of narrow web ink solutions for label and packaging printers, has announced strategic promotions designed to support the company’s growth objectives.

This sees Jim Whitehead promoted to the position of Commercial Director. Jim joined Pulse in the summer of 2023 as Export Sales Director and has been integral to the international growth of the business, particularly in Europe. This coincided with the launch of a dedicated operation in Poland, Pulse Polska, at the start of 2024.

In his new role, Jim is overseeing internal sales, product management and marketing. He will focus on driving customer satisfaction, continuous improvement, product interrogation, product rationalization, and managing both internal and external communications.

At the same time, Richard Wood becomes Global Sales Director. Richard joined the business a little over three years ago as UK & Ireland Sales Director and has successfully strengthened the position of Pulse in its home territory. With oversight of all customers and distributors worldwide, this expertise will now be extended to a global customer base as the Bristol-based ink manufacturer continues to grow around the world and challenge the status quo with unique chemistries and solutions that promote system-wide efficiency.

Gary Seward, one of the founders of Pulse and who continues as Managing Director of the business, said: “I am delighted that Jim and Richard have accepted these new roles and embraced the challenge of helping our business grow even further.

“When we started our business over 20 years ago, we set out to provide a unique point of difference to the label industry. Over those years, our product portfolio has developed in the same way and now gives printers a genuine opportunity to set themselves apart from the competition. Whether that’s high-strength, single-pigment solutions that deliver unparalleled print quality and consistency or fixed anilox printing for spot colours, which promises to drive a revolution in the flexo market, our business is now set for substantial growth.”

Speaking after his appointment as Commercial Director, Jim said: “Pulse is perfectly positioned to make a real difference to flexo label printers, the way they work, and how successful they can and should be.

“We are more than an ink supplier. We are a partner. Label printers will see this in action at Labelexpo Europe 2025 on stand 3G93, where the real-world benefits of PureTone®, Monolox, et al will be brought to life.”

Richard said: “I look forward to working with printers around the world to help them be the best version of themselves and sidestep the pitfalls of bad success.

“As a truly global event, Labelexpo Europe 2025 will be the perfect place for customers and prospects to engage with us and learn all about our solutions that can help them achieve their goals.”

Ben Howell, Technical Sales Manager, Export, and Artur Mansfeld and Przemysław Juszczyk, Sales Managers in Poland, are part of Richard’s team.

Pulse has also developed a new logo and adopted fresh branding. The new identity is being rolled out across the business with all regions adopting the new identity, including Pulse Polska.

Gary added: “By bringing together all of our operations together under one identity, we are living what we are bringing to the market, which is the philosophy of Making Print Simple. One simple and strong identity better unites us and enables our team to make a big difference.”

A new-look website will soon go live at pulserl.com, reflecting the refreshed and refocused aim of Pulse in making print simple. Further details regarding Pulse's presence at Labelexpo Europe 2025 will be announced shortly. For more information, visit pulserl.com.
