ISO Poly Films Adds Two W&H Blown Film Lines

LINCOLN, RI | ISO Poly Films, a Sigma Plastics Group co. located in Gray Court, SC, has added two new VAREX blown film extrusion lines from Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp. As a custom extruder of high-end specialty film for critical applications in the laminating, printing, coating, and converting markets, ISO Poly Films plans for the equipment editions to expand its involvement in markets that include food, medical, pet food, as well as other new markets.

The first W&H line is already operating at the 135,000-sq-ft state-of the-art facility and comprises a 63-in. wide, five-layer VAREX line and Filmatic S dual surface winder that incorporates the patented MULTICOOL D stacked double air ring with OPTIFIL P3 gauge control. The second line is presently in transit with startup planned for late summer and comprises a three-layer 110-in. VAREX line with grooved feed extruders (90.30/120.30/90.3 OD), a 25-in. OPTIFIL P2 die, and Filmatic T dual turret winder.

Jon McClure, founder and president of ISO Poly Films, and Alfred Teo, CEO of Alpha Industries (also a Sigma Plastic Group co.) explained in an exclusive interview during NPE in Chicago, IL, with PFFC associate publisher/editor Yolanda Simonsis that their reason for investing in W&H technology over competing technology was multifold. “We have invested in W&H for its quality and consistency of product. It produces the flattest film because of the dies, winders, haul-offs. . . We simply got a turnkey package. W&H is easy to deal with and provides excellent service. The same superior technicians who installed the first of our W&H lines are still with the company, and we maintain a good relationship with them. We have other lines, but once we switched, we stayed with W&H.”

ISO Poly Films was founded in 1998 and has invested more than $35 million in the development and expansion of its Gray Court, SC, facility. Sigma Plastics Group is the second largest North American flexible packaging producer with annual throughput of 1.6 billion lb of resin in its 35 plants: 31 in the US, two in Canada, one in Mexico, and one in Chile.

Windmoeller & Hoelscher is a leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of flexographic and gravure printing presses, blown and cast film extrusion systems, multiwall equipment, plastic sack and bagmaking machines, as well as form/fill/seal machinery for the converting and packaging industry. The company will also host an In-House EXPO on November 10—12, 2009, in Lengerich, Germany. For details, contact Catherine Mattson-Fimmers at This email address is being protected from spambots.
