Symposium to Focus on Workforce

RICHMOND, VA | A one-day symposium focused on production-level workers in the label and package printing industry will be held Thursday, October 26, 2017, 9:00–4:00, at Rosevine Hall, 2801 Snelling Ave., Roseville, MN. The event, entitled Reinventing the Workforce 2017, is a collaboration among the TCFA (Twin Cities Flexo Association), Printing Industries Midwest, and the City of Minneapolis Office of Community Planning & Economic Development.

The symposium will include the following agenda:

  • Recruiting – Reaching previously untapped candidate pools; changing your company’s hiring message; what tools to use; when to start the process
  • Hiring – Switching to competency-based hiring; updating your company’s hiring model; how inclusion impacts your customer’s demands; serious discussions about wage expectations
  • Training – Reinventing the apprenticeship model; training the complete rookie; untapped sources for funding training
  • Retaining – Importance of the employee experience; building an engaging, collaborative workplace.

The company suggests employees from human resources, executive level operations and manufacturing, and production level managers and supervisors should attend. Reportedly, attendees will take away the following:

  • At least three or four new ways to reach previously unreached candidates
  • New connections, methods, and tools to aid in that effort
  • Ideas for crafting a more effective hiring position and message
  • A better understanding of how to react to today’s changing hiring environment.
