Avery Dennison Performance Tapes Releases Bonding Study With Superior Felt & Filtration

Avery Dennison Performance Tapes released the first in a series of bonding studies that make it easier for converters to evaluate the performance of Avery Dennison Core Series™ Portfolio adhesive products with commonly used materials. This first study focuses on Superior Felt & Filtration’s Sunburst 1000™ Felt Series products.

The Sunburst 1000 bonding study was performed in collaboration with Superior Felt & Filtration at the Avery Dennison Performance Tapes Painesville Innovation Center, an ISO 17025-certified facility that can test adhesives under real-world and extreme conditions with tight control of environmental conditions. The study reportedly evaluated Core Series Portfolio adhesives using three different laminating methods on Sunburst 1000 products. Samples were tested at 180 degrees Fahrenheit Peel Adhesion at 12 in/min.

The resulting study classifies the performance of Core Series adhesives when used with Sunburst Felt products. Using the study in conjunction with the Avery Dennison Core Series Product Selection Tool allows converters to evaluate bonding strength along with other application requirements to quickly select the right adhesive for the material and application.

“Felt bonding is affected by a variety of factors that range from material thickness to adhesive mass and pressure,” said Deanne Lewis, product manager, Avery Dennison Performance Tapes. “Our goal with the study is to leverage our technical expertise and testing facilities to improve and simplify the process of selecting adhesives based on the specific characteristics of the material. Using this study, converters can specify and quote adhesives for Sunburst 1000 products with greater speed and accuracy.”

The Sunburst 1000 Felt Series is an earth-friendly, 100 percent synthetic, needle punched felt used in automotive interior trim and aftermarket products such as seating, headliners, gaskets, and anti-squeak/anti-rattle components.

The Avery Dennison Core Series Portfolio features the full breadth of the Avery Dennison Performance Tapes adhesive technologies—from general purpose rubber to silicone—in a variety of tape constructions.
