Partnership Aims at Europe
TAUNTON, ENGLAND—T S Converting Equipment and Deacro Industries, Mississauga, ON, Canada, have entered into a partnership agreement for the sale and support of Deacro throughout Europe. The agreement gives exclusive sales and service rights to T S Converting for all Deacro products, including duplex cantilevered slitters, turret slitters, salvage rewinders, and roll lock differential shafts.

Rheinmetall Sells Jagenberg
DÜSSELDORF, GERMANY—Rheinmetall Maschinenbau has sold all of its 93.7% stake in Jagenberg, Neuss, to Kleinewefers Verwaltungs-GmbH, Krefeld. Details were not disclosed. Following the recent sale of Lemo Maschinenbau and Niederkassel-Mondorf, Rheinmetall has completed the divestment of this financial investee.

Scitex Opens Training, Support Center
NETANYA, ISRAEL—Scitex Vision has opened the VisionAcademy, a comprehensive training and customer support center, at its new European headquarters in Zaventem, near Brussels, Belgium. The academy's courses are designed to improve customers' theoretical and practical applications knowledge when using Scitex equipment.

Blown Film Line Is High-Tech Addition fo South American Converter
CALI, COLOMBIA—According to Carpak S.A., a Carvajal co. in Colombia, S.A., its Flexa Div. now has the latest technology to compete in Latin America — and elsewhere. What makes the company so sure is a recently installed seven-layer blown film line from Battenfeld Gloucester Engineering.
The line, installed in the 140,000-sq-ft Flexa Div. plant (located in Cali), runs high-barrier film for flexible laminations, 3.5-5.0 mil thick and 35-72 in. wide.
Flexa's project engineer Fabio Gonzalez says, “We knew Battenfeld Gloucester had one of the most advanced systems available. We were also concerned about technical support, because customer service is essential. The very professional group working there was a major reason for our decision to go with Battenfeld Gloucester.”
The line features Contracool extruders; a 16-in. Optiflow LP die with internal bubble cooling; UltraCool air ring; Traversanip oscillating hauloff; and more. The entire line is operated by Battenfeld's Extrol 6032 microprocessor control system.

New Package Grants Henkel Its Three Wishes
KELSTERBACH, GERMANY—The Henkel Group wanted three things when it sought new packaging for its Sil stain-removing powder: a simplified package; moisture protection; and a package that fulfilled the Green Dot criteria required in Germany. The company's wishes were all fulfilled by packaging supplier VG Nicolaus, who combined cardboard, paper, and a polymer barrier layer of Topas COC from Ticona.
The COC layer provides the required moisture protection at a thickness of only 20 g/m2. The new package does not require a PP film overwrap, and the plastics content remains below the 5% limit specified by the Green Dot system.

Emerald Press on the Way to Canada
WINNIPEG, MB, CANADA—A Uteco gearless 8C-CI Emerald flexo press is on order at Topsyn Flexible Packaging Ltd. in Winnipeg
The press, which will offer speeds to 300 mpm, features a fully automatic turret unwind/rewind and will be outfitted with a BST Pro Mark Genius video inspection. The computer system holds 5,000 recipes for presetting.

Contracts
BOPP Line Going to Russia
SIEGSDORF, GERMANY—Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH reports the British consortium of HiltonGate Ltd., London, U.K., has signed a contract for a BOPP production line for the Russian market. The line will have a nameplate capacity of 18,000 tons/yr. The facility will be located in the Moscow region, and the first line is expected to begin production in the first quarter of 2005.
