WHQuiz Answer #13 - Web Wrinkling vs. Speed

WebHandlersQuiz 13: Wrinkling - If you see wrinkles at low speeds, but the wrinkles go away at higher speeds, what is the most likely reason?

Many wrinkle mechanisms are dependent on traction. As speed increases, air lubrication can reduce web-to-roller traction. Without traction there may not be enough force applied to the web from the roller to cause lateral bending (the source of shear wrinkles) or compress the web laterally beyond the buckling criteria.
