Carry Hot Package with Cool New Carton
The Grip & Go™ carton from Westvaco is designed to offer supermarket customers a comfortable handle for carrying rotisserie chicken, while securely sealing the dome's top and bottom to prevent leakage.

Made of durable 17.6-pt aseptic bleached paperboard, the Grip & Go also is said to eliminate the need for supplemental packaging. The carton offers space for logos and other brand-identity elements, and a UPC label can be printed on the strap to speed supermarket checkout.

Middleton Paper Relocates, Adds Sheeter
The Publication and Fine Paper Div. of Middleton Paper has relocated to a new facility in Walsall, West Midlands, England, where it provides converting services that include sheeting and slitting/rewinding for a range of grades.

Converting manager Steve Rathbone says, “The new plant will allow us to improve our product handling, storage, and distribution, which will result in still better service to our customers.”

Middleton Paper also invested in a Valmet CTS high-speed sheeter for the new factory. Managing director Jason Middleton says, “We selected the Valmet CTS due to its ability to convert a wide range of products with sheet tolerance and stacking suitable for press-ready use. The machine can be reset for a new order in minutes, which is extremely important for our business.”

Advanced Polybag Adds Five Alpine Extruders
Advanced Polybag (API), New Orleans, LA, has added five new Hosokawa Alpine American blown film coextrusion lines at its Las Vegas, NV, plant. API is a supplier of high quality grocery and merchandise bags.

With manufacturing facilities in New Orleans and Oklahoma City, OK, API uses Alpine American extruders exclusively. API president Hank Duc Nguyen says, “Alpine has consistently provided us with equipment that performs as advertised, and their technical service is simply the best; the decision to stay with Alpine was an easy one.”

Confectionery Brands Benefit from Tear Tape
Following the introduction of flow-wrap packaging for its Caramel and Nuts About Caramel candy bars, U.K.-based Cadbury's has adopted Supastrip easy-opening, self-adhesive tear tape from P P Payne.

The tear tape is said to combine the conven- ience of easy opening with a tamper-evidence feature, without detracting from the overall appearance of the package.

According to Barry Pamplin, Cadbury packaging services manager, “It was essential that we offer the consumer a fast, reliable, and easy method of gaining access to the product. Supastrip offers a very practical solution while helping to add to the overall esthetic appeal of the brand. Equally important, it provides a highly effective means of tamper-evidence to maximize consumer confidence in their purchase.”
