Mactac Reports New Overlaminate in Portfolio

STOW, OH | Mactac announces the addition of an overlaminate to its existing portfolio of Underwriters Laboratories (UL)-approved durable films with INX Digital International inks. Having recently received UL recognition for its 1.0-mil clear polyester overlaminating film, FAB6914, company can now offer its customers what it says is fast and easy access to entirely pre-approved durable label solutions—inclusive of base film, ink, and overlaminate—for compliance with UL 969 and CSA C22.2 No. 15.

“Obtaining this latest UL recognition is highly advantageous for our customers, as now the entire durable label construction is UL approved without the need for any additional testing—just a simple paper transfer,” says Kim Hensley, marketing manager, Mactac Performance Adhesives.

In 2014 a selection of Mactac’s UL recognized durable films were pre-approved for use with INX Digital International NWUV UV inkjet series inks for the NW140, NW140-2, and NW210-2 printing systems. The pre-approved films, include the following:

  • FCD6914 – 2.0-mil gloss-coated white polyester
  • FED6914 – 2.0-mil gloss-coated bright white silver polyester
  • FFD6914N – 2.0-mil matte-coated silver polyester
  • Today, these base film/ink combinations are also pre-approved when laminated with the FAB6914 overlaminating film.

Hensley says, “With the shift toward digital printing, UL pre-approved digital printing solutions provide added convenience to converters when completing short- and medium-run label jobs, which not only reduces costs but also shortens the time needed to enter the durable goods labeling market.”

Mactac’s durable film solutions, as well as the FAB6914 overlaminating film, feature its MP690 high-performance, high-tack permanent acrylic emulsion adhesive, which reportedly is resistant to chemicals and solvents and has good adhesion to high- and low-energy substrates.

The films are said to be ideal where high-performance adhesive labels are required to resist extreme heat as well as cold temperatures and chemical exposure in applications such as nameplate, brand identification, caution and warning labels, and compliance and hazard labels. Durable films are available under the company’s Precise Program, allowing customers to order less material for small runs and limited applications.
