NEENAH, WI | Menasha Packaging won eight awards at the 2009 Design of the Times competition, held during the In-Store Marketing Expo in Chicago this past October. Awards are presented for excellence in utilizing a specific display type to meet the challenges of a particular retail environment.

One of two platinum awards Menasha received was for the Windex Outdoor All-in-One Floor Stand, which the company converted for SC Johnson. It was entered in Retail Category/Supermarket/Grocery: Non-Food Items.

  • Colbert Packaging Corp., Chicago, IL, completes the acquisition of Dayton Carton, whose Louisville, KY, facility will be retained and rebranded. Colbert also acquires Crown Paper Box, Indianapolis, IN, whose customers will be serviced through existing Colbert facilities.

  • Smurfit-Stone Container Corp., Creve Coeur, MO, files a Joint Plan of Reorganization and Plan of Compromise and Arrangement and Disclosure Statement with the US Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. With this filing, the company aims to emerge from Chapter 11 protection in early spring.

  • Boehmer Box, Kitchener, ON, Canada, implements new software from Solarsoft, Vancouver, BC, Canada, that allows Boehmer to increase efficiencies in its quotation request process and adds to the functionality of its business software system. The Integrated Request for Quotation module speeds up the quotation and estimating process.

  • EskoArtwork, Gent, Belgium, contributes expertise to a revised edition of the European Carton Makers Assn. Code of Folding Carton Styles. It results in the first digital edition of the ECMA Code, including many new digital capabilities supporting the folding carton design and manufacturing process.
