GPC Now Offers Child-Resistant and Senior-Friendly Pharm Packages

GOLDEN, CO, USA —Graphic Packaging Corp. (GPC) reports a new offering for its pharmaceutical customers: The folding carton converter says it now has drug packaging (for commercial and clinical products) that's designed to be child-resistant yet provides senior citizens with improved opening ease.

GPC says it recently signed a licensing agreement with ProClincal Pharmaceutical Services Inc. of Phoenixville, PA. "As a result, [our] customers now will be able to receive blister packaging that requires a child-resistant/senior-friendly package." In May 2002, adds co., the US Consumer Product Safety Commission required clinical trial packaging to be child-resistant and senior-effective. ProClincal obtained a patent for its "Pick and Peel" packaging system in December 2001.

"This agreement with ProClincal gives us a product offering we did not have before, and it's an important product that meets the new government regulations," explains Chris Madison, GPC's pharmaceutical sales and marketing manager. "It also gives us access to the clincal trial marketplace and will enhance Graphic Packaging's reputation as an innovative supplier." Madison adds the co.'s growing list of pharmaceutical customers already includes Abbott Labs, Bristol-Myers Squibb, and Johnson & Johnson.
