Dr. J. Keith Good to Keynote Applied Web Handling Conference

Fort Mill, SC | Web handling expert Dr. J. Keith Good will present the keynote address, “Winding Models: Using Science to Profit,” at the Applied Web Handling Conference (AWEB), to be held on May 6-9, 2008 at the Radisson Univ. Hotel in Minneapolis, MN. His presentation will focus on modeling winder performance to prevent defects. AWEB, sponsored by the Assn. of Industrial Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) and its Converting Equipment Mfrs. Assn. (CEMA) division, focuses on practical techniques to optimize web handling, improve productivity, and minimize waste.

Dr. Good is a professor and Noble Foundation Chair at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Oklahoma State Univ., Stillwater, OK, home of the world’s only Web Handling Research Ctr. (WHRC). Dr. Good’s research at the WHRC focuses on mechanics of winding webs and spreading devices, web wrinkling instability, and web traction with the goal of developing analytical and experimental techniques to study mechanics and dynamics phenomena.

AWEB sessions focus on winding, slitting, troubleshooting, drying, simulation, controls, registration, noncontact measurement, rollers, and spreading. Participants also may register for a special, half-day short course, Winding: Equipment, Mechanics & Roll Quality, on Thursday, May 8, as well as an optional half-day seminar on Friday, May 9, on using TopWeb 2.0 to Understand Your Web Handling and Winding Processes. The conference also includes two table-top receptions, one on Tuesday, May 6, sponsored by Maxcess Intl. Corp. ( Oklahoma City, OK), and one on Wednesday, May 7, sponsored by CPP Expo (Paramus, NJ).

Registration for the AWEB conference is $595 for members, $795 for nonmembers, $395 for students/members of academia and presenters. The half-day short course, Winding: Equipment, Mechanics & Roll Quality, costs an additional $250. Registration for the TopWeb 2.0 course is free to current TopWeb customers, $149 for all others. Registration materials for AWEB and associated events may be found on-line at www.aimcal.org.
