Presto and Pliant Reach Agreement on Slider Reclosable Technology

SCHAUMBURG, IL, USA—Presto Products Company, an Appleton, WI-based business of Alcoa Consumer Products, Inc., and Pliant Corporation reportedly have reached a mutual agreement granting Presto the right to use Pliant's patented Slider reclosable technology.

According to Pliant, the agreement also gives Presto the right to extend its rights to its distributors, dealers, and end-users. This agreement will allow Presto to expand its work with its customers to increase the market penetration of the Slider package technology, adds the Schaumburg-based mfr. of films and flexible packaging.

States a Pliant release: "For over 20 years, Presto's Fresh-Lock Zipper brand has been the leader in reclosable technology. Presto offers more than 40 proven Fresh-Lock zipper styles, from cost-effective single track to patented high performance zippers and sliders."

Pliant also says its patent extends to most form/fill/seal slider applications. "This agreement is a win for both Pliant and Presto," says Len Azzaro, president of Pliant Flexible Packaging. "Combining Pliant's patented technology with the Presto Fresh-Lock zipper brand expands opportunities for both companies in the rapidly growing reclosable market."

Adds Wayne Werner, VP of specialty products at Alcoa Consumer Packaging, "This agreement positions Presto to offer the widest array of Slider reclosable technology in the industry. We expect Slider reclosable packaging to be a key growth area for Presto."
