Esko-Graphics Highly Commended at Label Industry Global Awards

PRESS RELEASE

GHENT, BELGIUM — Esko Graphics was among many companies recognized for contributions to the narrow web label printing and converting industry at Labelexpo Americas 2004 this past September.

"Nearly 600 suppliers, converters, and trade associations came together at the Label Industry Global Awards and Gala Dinner [held during Labelexpo Americas 2004]," states Tarsus, organizer of Labelexpo events.

According to Tarsus, the worldwide label industry voted online for individuals and companies. To decide the final nominees and winners, a judging panel met in July in Chicago, IL, USA, to review the extensive list of nominations for each of the three award categories.

Esko Graphics was "highly commended" in the Label Industry Award for Continuous Innovation. Stated the judging panel, "Although Esko-Graphics is a relatively new name to the label industry, the individual companies from which it was created — Barco and Purup — have been innovating and developing the world of digital label prepress since the early 1980s, making a major contribution to the way labels are designed and imaged and to the consistently high-quality results achieved in label printing today."

The winner in the Continuous Innovation category was Avery Dennison (averydennison.com). "Without Avery Dennison, the pressure-sensitive industry as we know it today would not exist," the juding panel said of Avery. "Avery Dennison was the original creator of the pressure-sensitive label business — now a global industry — not only with self-adhesive materials but also with the concept of narrow web roll-label printing and die cutting. The company's achievements in label materials innovation throughout its history and the industry's history have been highly visible and ongoing."

Also highly commended in the continuous innovation category was Nilpeter (nilpeter.com).
