BillerudKorsnäs Launches Premium Cartonboard

STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN | BillerudKorsnäs recently introduced BillerudKorsnäs White, a smooth cartonboard said to embolden shelf impact while raising sustainability scores.

Product reportedly offers “dazzling” printing and unique shaping capabilities to enhance brands at point-of-purchase and blends exceptional strength and reduced packaging weight to offer a more eco-friendly alternative to traditional cartonboard products. It also is said to offer converters excellent runnability and flexibility.

The board is composed of a blend of 100% primary fibers from Nordic spruce and pine, combined with short and dense birch fibers. Company says this composition cultivates resilient and stiff mechanical properties that include exceptional formability and tear resistance, unlimited shaping, and creasing without cracking. Package designers can create eye-catching packaging with precision die-cutting and windows. The integrity of the product enables cartons to be securely opened and closed for easy dispensing and protection of products, and its smooth surface, combined with strategic embossing, enhances consumer engagement and satisfaction. Company also says the material’s dimensional stability reduces the risk of delamination and enables excellent and consistent runnability on converting equipment at high speeds and large volumes. In addition to exceptional strength and printability, BillerudKorsnäs White reduces package weight through a process of “right-weighting” to optimize the exact amount of material necessary without sacrificing quality or packaging performance. This helps save significant costs throughout the supply chain.

On the subject of sustainability, the company explains that by sourcing raw materials from sustainably managed forests and leveraging resource-efficient manufacturing methods, it can help brands lower their carbon footprint. Its primary fibers are sourced from forests that are subject to strict environmental laws to ensure proper environmental stewardship.
