AVT Targets Latin America

HOD HASHARON, ISRAEL—Advanced Vision Technology (AVT) has announced an expansion of its sales and marketing initiatives in the Latin American marketplace. To date, the company reports it has sold 18 PrintVision/9000 NT and PrintVision/ Genesis systems to companies in the region. John Ferreira has been named general manager for Latin American marketing.

Black Clawson Supplies Malaysian Film Co.
FULTON, NY, USA—Scientex Packaging Films, Kuala Lampur, Malaysia, has purchased two cast stretch film lines from Black Clawson Converting Machinery. The lines will provide Scientex with a 12-up (two 6x500-mm roll width) production capacity at its new Pulah Indah facility. Each coextrusion line will be 3,000 mm wide (118 in.), will produce five-layer stretch films used for industrial wrapping, and will process nearly 2,700 kg/hr (6,000 lb/hr).

DCM Group Buys ATN
NANTERRE, FRANCE—The DCM Group purchased ATN, Orleans, France. ATN makes equipment for the board and paper converting industries including gravure, flexo, offset, and combination presses; unwinders and rewinders; sheeters; label cutters; and rotary die-cutters.

International Flexo Printers Visit Harper Facility
CHARLOTTE, NC, USA—Miller Graphics, which represents the anilox roll line of Harper Corp. of America in the Swedish, Norwegian, and Danish flexo printing markets, recently escorted executives from the European operations of Tetra Pak, Triflex, and DuPont to Charlotte for a three-day seminar. The seminar included a tour of Harper's Advance Surface Technologies Center and updates on anilox manufacturing and laser engraving techniques, as well as principles for improving flexographic print quality.

Mexican Plants Add Ink Control Systems

MEXICO—Through its agent ALHU International, Automatän, Plover, WI, has installed ink control systems in two plants. These systems automatically monitor and adjust pH and viscosity of flexo ink simultaneously on separate presses. LaContinental, San Cristobal Ecatepec, has added six-color Inkontrol systems on one United and two Langston presses. Unipak S.A., Cuenavaca, added four-color Inkontrol systems to its United and Langston presses.

Security Tapemaker Adds Slitter/Rewinder
LUTON, U.K.—LGL Protectaseal, Luton, U.K., manufacturers of high-security, tamper-evident tapes and seals, has installed a Model 480 slitter/rewinder from SRC Systems. SRC used differential slip control via load cells to achieve LGL Protectaseal's requirements.

Jim Laskey, managing director of LGL, made the decision to install the slitter/rewinder after visiting SRC's factory in Ipswich, England. He reportedly was impressed by the machine's quality and the ability to control tension accurately down to an absolute minimum and still maintain edge profile.

Chinese Engraver Buys Gravure Proofing Presses

CHESHIRE, ENGLAND—Yuncheng Plate Making Group, the largest Chinese cylinder engraving company, has purchased 12 open-fronted rotogravure proofing presses from J.M. Heaford Ltd. The machine was developed in conjunction with the Yuncheng Group and features an "ultra-low" open-front design for very quick loading of shell-type cylinders, although the machine can be set up for shafted-type cylinders. U.K.-based Heaford reports the new proof press development demonstrates its commitment to the Asian marketplace. Since the introduction of this equipment in 1999, there has been significant interest from other Asian countries, resulting in four machine sales into Japan and one to Malaysia.

Ultimet Continues Expansion in Metallized Films
NORWICH, ENGLAND—Reflecting the growth for metallized films in the flexible packaging market, five-year-old Ultimet Films has purchased a third vacuum metallizer from Valmet General Ltd. The new metallizer is a 2,450-mm-wide machine, which complements Ultimet's two smaller General metallizers. According to Myke Stott, managing director of Ultimet, "This will increase our production capacity by 40 percent. It will allow us to address new markets and provide important backup for our existing customers. With this latest addition, we will emerge as probably the largest independent metallizer in Europe."
