Vaseline Skin Care Products Go In-Mold
All Vaseline skin care products used by Unilever Korea now feature FasClear In-Mold film manufactured by the Engineered Films Div. of Avery Dennison.
This Vaseline collection is one of the top-selling body lotions in Korea. Previously, Vaseline products used a PE p-s label on the company's white HDPE containers. Unilever Korea says it decided to switch to in-mold labeling to reduce package decorating costs. FasClear In-Mold and PRIMAX In-Mold are matte clear and white engineered polyolefin films specifically designed for in-mold labeling.

Label Graphics, Medicia Introduce CouPak
A collaboration between narrow web converter Label Graphics Inc., Little Falls, NJ, and Medicia Corp., a leading East Coast contract manufacturer of personal care products, has resulted in the development of a new kind of promotional package, dubbed “CouPak.”
Reportedly, the package integrates the benefits of an expanded-content label with those of a sample hangtag packette — at considerable cost-savings in both production and materials.
The concept emerged during a meeting between the two companies. Jake Ritz, sales manager of Label Graphics, and Gino Ferrara, Medicia's director of sales and marketing, were exploring the feasibility of incorporating a coupon with a sample packette that would hang on the neck of a standard shampoo bottle. The purpose? Cross-promotion. The problem? Producing a packette with a hangtag typically generates significant material waste and high production costs. “The CouPak not only solves this problem,” comments Ritz, “it also brings considerable added value to the finished package.”
Manufactured by Label Graphics, CouPak's back panel houses a hangtag constructed of a polyester substrate die-cut to form the hangtag orifice. Label Graphics reports it can customize the size of the die-cut to accommodate bottle necks of virtually any shape or diameter. If required, printing can be applied to the hangtag section for added promotional copy and graphics.
With the packette strategically designed for easy application and handling, CouPak also includes an expanded-content label that can be constructed in a variety of fold designs and printed in up to eight colors. The hangtag and expanded-content labels are pre-assembled on rolls and then adhered to filled packettes using a high-speed, automated process developed by Medicia.
“CouPak is ideal for cross-promotion of products such as shampoos and conditioners, towelettes and cleansers, or even tablets and medicinal liquids,” says Ritz. “The multi-page detachable booklet can offer coupons, sweepstakes, additional promotion copy, or ‘how to’ information.”
