Kendall Packaging Adds Solvent Reclaim Unit

EcoPure solvent recovery unitMEQUON, WI | Kendall Packaging purchased a new EcoPure solvent reclaim unit at the beginning of 2013 to help with waste generated by the ten-color Windmoeller & Hoelscher Corp. Miraflex press purchased in 2011. Since purchasing the unit, Kendall has converted 308 drums of solvent waste into usable, clean solvent, shipping out 35% less drums of waste.

"In the first six months of owning the unit, Kendall has seen considerable savings by using the machine," state ink department manager, Dave Carpentier, "but more importantly, we have sent much less waste into landfills." Kendall expects to further reduce solvent waste through plans to hire another ink technician, to allow the unit to run on all shifts.

This new solvent reclaim unit is part of Kendall's on-going efforts to reduce our overall impact on the environment. Other sustainable efforts at Kendall include: down-gauging structures on oil-based products, adding new equipment to reduce green house gas emissions; recycling programs at each facility; and growth in solvent-less adhesives to reduce energy use and minimize solvents required.
