AIMCAL Teams with SPE for Technical Meeting

FORT MILL, SC | The Assn. of International Metallizers, Coaters and Laminators (AIMCAL) reports the Web Coating & Handling Conference/FlexPackCon will be held Oct. 19–22, 2014, at the Marriott Grande Dunes Hotel in Myrtle Beach, SC. This is the first joint technical conference organized by AIMCAL and the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE), Newtown, CT.

The conference will feature more than 100 sessions with a fourth track devoted to flexible packaging. The other three tracks are Web Coating & Laminating, Vacuum Web Coating, and Web Handling. Six optional short courses will be offered on Sunday, October 19: Barrier Materials: How Substrate Quality Affects Inorganic Coating Performance; Wrinkling and Spreading; Cost Accounting for Better Results; Nanocoatings—Principles and Practice; Web Slitting Technology; and Barrier Packaging—Technologies and Application.

Other highlights include The Innovation Imperative: Why Big Forces Demand Change in the Packaging of Small Things, the opening keynote by Julia Allen, analyst at Lux Research, Boston, MA.

Two days of Tabletop Exhibitions and an hour-long Vendor Session give attendees an opportunity to learn about potential vendors and new products. The most creative and entertaining three-minute presentation in the Vendor Session will receive the AIMMy (AIMCAL Emmy) Award.

New this year is an “I Would Like to Meet…” bulletin board to help attendees get acquainted one-on-one. Organizers say a Scramble Golf Tournament and the Bernard Henry 5K Fun Run provide opportunities to network in the fresh air. The Fun Run is held in memory of the renowned expert in vacuum coating, who was an avid runner. The meeting concludes with a farewell reception and presentation of John Matteucci Technical Awards recognizing the best papers presented at the meeting.
