Cal-Poly Launches Fund-Raising Drive to Commemorate 60 Years of Graphic Communication Education

PRESS RELEASE

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA, USA — Founded in 1946, Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year. To commemorate its 60 years of service to the graphic communication field, Cal Poly's Graphic Communication Department has launched a $2.5 million (US) fund drive in order to continue to offer education and information to the industry.

Says department head Harvey Levenson, "The Graphic Communication Department and the university wants to make sure the department is equipped to serve the printing industry for the next 60 years and beyond."

In addition to concentrations in printing and imaging management; electronic publishing and imaging design reproduction technology; and individualized study in graphic communication, the Graphic Communication Department at Cal Poly provides research, product evaluations, and continuing education to the industry through its Graphic Communication Institute (grci.calpoly.edu

"Since 1946, the department has been providing qualified graduates to help 'grow' the companies they join," explains Levenson. "The department also has offered ongoing educational services to those already in the industry. Those educational opportunities have included research, testing, product evaluations, consulting, seminars, and workshops. Cal Poly plans on continuing such services."

Levenson adds the fund-raising campaign, entitled "Addressing Today and Preparing for Tomorrow: Partners in Education —Cal Poly and the Graphic Communication Industry," has garnered the Graphic Communication Department $620,000 so far, but encourages supporters to help the department reach its $2.5 million dollar goal.

"Donations received will be used for two different programs," says Levenson. "We plan to put $500,000 in a restricted fund to address the immediate needs of the department. This includes laboratory development, renovations, scholarships, professional development of faculty and staff, visiting lectures from industry, supply acquisitions, research, testing, and programs for the industry."
