Division Award Winners

A highlight of each Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Conference is the presentation of Division Awards. For 2000, the Division Technical Award and Sam Zweig Prize originally endowed by Morton International went to Peter F. Cloeren of Cloeren, Inc. Cloeren received the recognition for his 19 patents on innovative technology for coextrusion that has allowed converters to develop structures with better barriers, improved strength and sealing properties, and better economics through reduced waste. A member of TAPPI since 1991, Cloeren is a leading expert in the field of coextrusion and flat die design.

Scott Marks of E. I. duPont de Nemours & Co. received the Division Leadership and Service Award with the accompanying Andreas Ahlbrandt Prize endowed by Enercon Industries, Inc. Since joining TAPPI in 1985, Marks has been especially active in the global activities of the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Division. His enthusiastic support for and involvement in the division activities throughout the world has contributed to increased TAPPI membership and the success of technical meetings in Europe, Asia, and other areas outside the United States. Marks has also presented many papers at TAPPI conferences, short courses, and symposiums.

Other awards presented at the Polymers, Laminations and Coatings Conference were a Special Certificate of Appreciation to Dante Ferrari of AT Plastics and a Certificate of Outstanding Merit to Ray Edwards of Eastman Chemical Co. Ferrari's recognition was for his two-year flurry of divisional activities since joining TAPPI in 1998 that included organization of a new short course and assumption of a committee chair. As a TAPPI member since 1981, Edwards has presented 23 papers at division conferences and has made numerous other presentations at short courses. A trademark of these presentations enjoyed by audiences has always been peppering of the technical information with his unique brand of humor.
